Glass Claim Process

How to Start a Glass Claim

  1. Choose a Participating Glass Shop
Pick a repair shop that works with MPI, such as Penner Auto Body (Mitchell Cloud / eGlassClaim).

  2. Report the Claim

    • Option 1: Call the shop directly. Many MPI‑approved glass shops can open the claim for you using MPI’s eGlassClaim system—so you don’t have to call MPI first.

    • Option 2: Call MPI yourself if you prefer:

      • In Winnipeg: 204‑985‑7000

      • Outside Winnipeg: 1‑800‑665‑2410

  3. Provide Necessary Information
When reporting the claim, have this ready:

    • Vehicle registration number

    • License plate number and your Autopac policy/customer number

    • The date and time the damage happened

    • Your driver’s licence number (or customer number if you don’t have a licence)

  4. If It’s Vandalism

What Happens During the Repair Process

  • Once your claim is opened, the glass shop will assess whether the damage can be repaired (for example, small chips) or replaced (for cracks or broken windows).

  • MPI has specific guidelines:

    • Up to four chips are allowed if none are over 1 inch (in some cases).

  • If your vehicle has driver‑assist systems (ADAS) like cameras or sensors, replacing the windshield may require calibration afterwards to ensure everything works correctly.

  • After the work is done, MPI needs a signed glass repair/replacement authorization from both you and the repair shop.

Important Things to Know

  • Windshield chip repairs do not affect your insurance premiums or driver safety rating.

  • Don’t fix anything before your claim is assessed unless it’s an emergency repair to make the vehicle drivable.

Starting a glass claim with MPI is designed to be simple and convenient. By choosing Penner Auto Body, reporting the claim, and giving the right information, you can get your glass damage assessed and repaired quickly. Whether it's a small chip or a full replacement, MPI’s process helps make sure your vehicle is safe and ready for the road again.
